Nevermore Collection

Los Angeles, California

2024

An exhibition collection developed through graphic and garment mood-boarding, motif exploration, color studies, and garment and accessory ideation. Black cats, ravens, vampire bats, paradox, and tragic comedy form the visual language for two capsule narratives, Dead and Alive and Tragic Comedy, extending the collection into both exhibition and campaign concepts.

I. The Exhibition Collection

Nevermore introduces the Exhibition Collection as a framework for building one idea across multiple forms. Gallery, Bookshelf, and Showroom collections operate together as parts of a shared world, allowing imagery, literature, garments, objects, and physical activation to carry the same research and motifs into different modes of experience.

II. Graphic Mood Board

The graphic research gathers imagery around darkness, illusion, mortality, humor, superstition, and the supernatural. Film, literature, advertising, illustration, photography, and printed ephemera sit beside one another, allowing unexpected relationships to emerge and establishing the conceptual atmosphere from which Nevermore takes its name and visual language.

III. Garment Mood Board

The garment research translates that atmosphere into silhouette, styling, and object. Tailoring, veiling, elongated black forms, fitted dresses, unconventional accessories, footwear, and moments of saturated color create a wardrobe vocabulary capable of carrying the collection’s tension between elegance, darkness, humor, and theatricality.

IV. Color Palette

Black serves as the collection’s visual anchor, supported by colors extracted from the research and named through the world of Nevermore. White, green, red, yellow, blue, gray, and cream create shifts in mood and emphasis while allowing graphic motifs to travel consistently across imagery, garments, and exhibition concepts.

V. Motifs and Garment Exploration

The research expands into a wide field of possible motifs, including black cats, ravens, vampire bats, mortality, jazz, witchcraft, paradox, comedy, and the supernatural. Those ideas are then mapped onto two developing capsules, Dead and Alive and Tragic Comedy, through garments, accessories, objects, and graphic concepts.

VI. Collection Brand Identity

The collection identity establishes Nevermore as its own recognizable world within Azani. A restrained typographic system pairs the Azani word mark with the handwritten Nevermore signature, creating a visual identity that can move across garments, printed matter, exhibition graphics, and promotional applications.

VII. Gallery Collection (Digital Print and Illustration)

The Gallery Collection translates recurring motifs into a series of digital works conceived for exhibition. The black cat, raven, vampire bat, and Nevermore word mark become graphic compositions in their own right, extending the collection’s visual language beyond the garment and into image, scale, and space. VIII. Book Collection (Selected Works)

The Book Collection situates Nevermore alongside literature that informs its themes and atmosphere. Works spanning horror, tragedy, history, race, folklore, and the supernatural create another path into the collection, treating reading and reference as part of how its visual world is understood and experienced.

IX. Showroom Collection (Sketches and Ideation)

The Showroom Collection translates motifs into garments and objects through exploratory sketches. Ravens, skulls, flames, text, tailoring, utility forms, footwear, and accessories become physical carriers of the collection’s themes, building a wardrobe from the same research that informs its gallery and literary components.

X. Promotional and Collaborative Concepts

The exhibition framework culminates in promotional concepts imagining Nevermore in dialogue with cultural institutions. Separate activations for Dead and Alive and Tragic Comedy extend the collection identity into campaign design, co-branding, place, and programming, demonstrating how the project could move from collection development into a public-facing experience.
